What was the deciding factor? The moment 1,010 Goodweigh customers made their decision

Short answer: Our customer satisfaction survey shows that it is primarily other people’s experiences and a positive first point of contact that convince customers to start using waste medication. It’s normal to have doubts; having the right information at the right time makes all the difference.
Almost no one starts a medication disposal scheme without some hesitation. Yet they do go ahead. What is the moment when the decision is made? From our June 2026 customer satisfaction survey of 1,010 customers, we know quite precisely what convinced people to start a medication disposal scheme, and what that tells us about what constitutes a good decision.
In this article, we’ll go through the main reasons, along with the figures and the stories behind them.
The two most frequently cited factors
Two factors feature by far the most frequently in customers’ responses. Around 16 per cent cite positive reviews and personal accounts from others as the deciding factor. People read about others’ experiences on Instagram, via Google or through word of mouth, and recognised themselves in the stories of others who had already started. In addition, around 14% cited a positive and prompt initial contact as the moment their doubts were dispelled: the way Goodweigh responded to an initial enquiry or during the intake interview instilled enough confidence to get started. This is followed by convenience and accessibility: the option to stop whenever it doesn’t suit, without long-term commitments and with a simple sign-up process.
The power of personal stories
One customer put it this way: “I’ve heard good things on Instagram; I’ve tried so many things already and this really is my last attempt – and honestly, it works. I’m so happy.” Experiences like this achieve something that figures alone cannot: they make an abstract treatment concrete and personal. On our reviews page, you can read more stories from customers who have already taken this step.
Why the first point of contact is so important
Almost 14 per cent cite the first point of contact as decisive, and this is an underestimated moment. Anyone who has doubts and asks a question is actually expecting two things at once: a clear answer to the specific question, and the feeling of being taken seriously. A quick, personalised response breaks the cycle of doubt, whilst a generic or slow reply actually reinforces it.
That is why the intake process at Goodweigh is deliberately designed around personal contact. For any questions before or during treatment, you can always contact our customer service team. “Low-threshold start”: what that means in practice
A third theme that comes up repeatedly is the option to start without any major commitment. One customer described it as: “A low-threshold start. I could try it out and then cancel afterwards.” People don’t want to enter into a long-term commitment before they know whether a treatment works for them.
The Goodweigh weight-loss programme is therefore designed to be flexible: you start following a medical assessment and can stop the treatment whenever it suits your situation, in consultation with your supporting healthcare professional. That flexibility makes the first step psychologically safer, precisely because starting doesn’t require an irreversible decision.
Unanswered questions: why it pays to ask questions beforehand
Clients who hesitated for longer before starting were more likely to indicate in the survey that they still had questions beforehand that had not been fully answered. This does not point to a problem with hesitation itself: hesitation when making a medical decision is healthy and normal. It does, however, show that unanswered questions can influence the experience afterwards, and that it is therefore worth asking those questions beforehand rather than bringing them with you to the treatment. The better your questions and expectations are discussed beforehand, the better the treatment will meet your needs. Are you still unsure about anything? What does a good decision look like?
A good decision isn’t impulsive, but it isn’t put off indefinitely either. The clients who are most satisfied afterwards are those whose questions were answered: through reviews, through a good initial consultation, or through clear information that gave them the feeling they knew what they were getting into. Doubt is a healthy part of making a medical decision. Once you have the information you need, waiting any longer isn’t a matter of caution, but of procrastination.
Ready to take the plunge?
If you’re reading this and recognise yourself in the doubts, the questions and the search for reassurance, then you’re probably further along than you think. The step that helped clients most in our research was simply getting in touch and asking a question: for 14 per cent of them, that moment proved to be the deciding factor.
