More reports on weight loss medication: what does this mean for you?
.avif)
You may have seen it in the news: the National Poisons Information Centre (NVIC) received almost twice as many reports of health complaints after using weight loss medication last year.
This understandably raises questions, especially if you have already started treatment or are considering doing so. That's why we'd like to explain what these reports mean and why proper medical supervision is so important.
Where do these reports come from?
A large portion of the reported poisonings stems from weight loss medication that people order without medical supervision, for example, through illegal or unregulated providers.
In such situations, there is often no doctor to assess whether the medication is suitable, medical supervision is lacking, and it's not always clear what a product precisely contains. This increases the risk of misuse and health complaints.
An example of this is retatrutide (also known as 'Triple G'). This substance is currently not approved as a medicine anywhere in the world. Products sold under this name are therefore not officially registered medications. Goodweigh does not offer this medication.
Are GLP-1 medications safe then?
Yes, provided they are prescribed and used correctly.
GLP-1 medication has been extensively researched and is prescribed worldwide for obesity and diabetes. As with any medicine, side effects can occur. Therefore, it is important that treatment takes place under the supervision of a doctor, with regular check-ups and opportunities to ask questions.
The recent figures primarily underscore the importance of that medical supervision.
How does Goodweigh ensure safe treatment?
At Goodweigh, safety is paramount from the outset.
Before you start, a BIG-registered doctor assesses whether the treatment is medically sound and appropriate for your situation. Throughout the process, you remain under medical supervision. Every four weeks, we evaluate your progress, and you can always contact us if you have questions about your dosage, side effects, or treatment.
Your medication is exclusively dispensed through a registered Dutch pharmacy and comes from official pharmaceutical distribution channels. Goodweigh is listed in the official register of online medicine providers, linked to the Dutch pharmacy with which we collaborate. This register shows which providers operate legally and according to Dutch regulations. Our registration is via this link available.

Furthermore, successful treatment involves more than just medication. That's why you also receive guidance from a lifestyle coach, who helps you with, among other things:
- a healthy and complete diet;
- maintaining muscle mass during weight loss;
- sufficient exercise and sustainable, healthy habits.
In summary
Recent reports primarily highlight the importance of using weight loss medication exclusively under medical supervision and through reliable, official channels. At Goodweigh, we combine medical supervision, a registered Dutch pharmacy, and personal support, so you can work towards your health goals safely and responsibly.
