On Saturday, February 28, 2026, Kassa focused part of its broadcast on digital obesity care, which also covered Goodweigh's approach. Critical journalism is essential in a democratic society and contributes to transparency and improvement in healthcare. We fully support this.

However, we are concerned that Kassa's reporting creates an inaccurate and misleading picture. It suggests that doctors act recklessly, carelessly, or without integrity, which is factually incorrect. Publicly questioning the professional integrity of doctors directly affects the foundation of the doctor-patient relationship: trust. That trust is crucial for safe and effective healthcare, and undermining it can have far-reaching consequences for patients and healthcare providers.

Carefulness is key

Goodweigh has developed a careful care pathway in collaboration with affiliated doctors and pharmacists, precisely because it concerns digital care.

Our care pathway includes the following:

  • Every treatment starts with a comprehensive medical intake.
  • A qualified physician assesses the intake, medical history, and current medication use and checks for possible contraindications.
  • Medication verification takes place via the National Exchange Point (LSP).
  • If necessary, additional contact will be made with the patient via chat in the personal portal or by telephone.
  • In case of doubt, written approval will be requested from a primary care provider (e.g., a neurologist or cardiologist) or consultation will take place with the patient's own general practitioner or practice nurse.
  • Patients are regularly not eligible for medication when this is not medically justified.
  • Parallel to any medical treatment, each patient is invited to receive guidance from a lifestyle coach via video call(s) to work on structural lifestyle improvements. The questionnaires from checkoorzakenovergewicht.nl form the basis for this guidance.
  • Patients have access to a personal portal at all times, where they can contact the medical team directly, track their progress, and receive guidance on working towards an improved lifestyle.
  • If the prescription is sent to the pharmacy, the pharmacy will carry out an independent and additional check to ensure that the medication can be dispensed safely and responsibly.
  • If a patient gives their consent, we share their medication use via Goodweigh with other healthcare providers via the National Exchange Point (LSP). In all cases, a letter is also provided to the patient, which can be used to independently inform their regular GP and pharmacy about the treatment at Goodweigh.
  • Every 4 weeks, a structural medical evaluation takes place, during which effectiveness, compliance, and side effects are assessed by a doctor and the treatment is adjusted medically if necessary.

This care pathway is explicitely not an automated or voluntary process, but a carefully designed process with individual medical assessment and review at every step.

A different picture than the one painted

The Kassa broadcast paints a picture that we do not recognize and that ignores the professionalism and integrity with which we operate. Every day, we work with qualified doctors, pharmacists, and lifestyle coaches who are committed to helping people who are severely overweight and obese, conditions that pose major health risks and have a significant social impact.

We have now guided thousands of people through their treatment process. For many of them, this was the first effective step towards improving their health and quality of life.
